Beyond Mother's Day

Mother's Day has come and gone, like every year.

I always think that one day isn't enough – and that, by the way, applies to any Awareness Day.

Trying to bring a smile on your face with my macro photography.

This reminds me that I once told a boyfriend that I want every day to be a Valentine's Day – not in the BIG gestures, card, flowers, chocolates and champagne kind of way, but in the 'our relationship is important and I want it to be loving every day' kind of way.

OK, back to the topic.

I bet that all the beautiful (and highly overpriced) Mother's Day flowers have now wilted, the chocolates disappeared (probably onto the hips) and the odd spa voucher might never be redeemed, because mum is so busy looking after everybody else that she doesn't have time to carve out a few hours for her own well-being.

Or am I overly negative?

Honestly, negativity, let alone sarcasm, isn't my style at all, but I can't help to wonder ...

Even if the spa voucher is getting redeemed, what difference does one (!) special treatment, which effects might last a day or so, have?

Shortly afterwards dinner needs to be ready and 'normal' life resumes.

OK, let's stop moaning or dwelling on too much negativity – as I said, it's not like me at all.

Hence I have a suggestion for you.

Of course I have.

A suggestion for mums – but also for dads, care-givers, carers, stressed employees or self-employed people of all professions.

How does this sound?

Having a tool in your toolbox where you can re-create that deeply relaxing, blissful post-spa treatment wherever you are and whenever you want.

Within a few minutes.

Before you now think I've moved from one end of the spectrum to the other and I'm now deliriously positive, let me explain.

Of course I'm talking about TRE

TRE is helping us to release deep-seated stress and tension while down-regulating a highly activated nervous system.

No surprise that for many of my clients 'the best night's sleep' is the most appreciated 'side effect'.

I remember one client whose sleep was so deep and restorative, that she blissfully slept in the following day, announcing proudly that she hadn't slept that well for years.

When we allow the body to relax deeply, when we physically relax the muscles, we calm the nervous system at the same time.

That's why many people fall asleep during a massage treatment.

But imaging giving you that (internal) massage yourself – no appointment needed, no drive to the spa, no waiting time, no drive home after a relaxing treatment etc. - simply by practising TRE in the comfort of your own home and within a few minutes.

Getting off that mat after a TRE practice is generally the most difficult bit, as it's not easy to face the real world again after such deep relaxation.

That's the reason why I offer many early evening sessions – when clients had their TRE session they can then retire to the sofa or straight to bed to relax.

Bliss.

Anyway, on top of the immediate effects of a TRE practice, there are long-term ones, too.

Remember I said TRE also down-regulates an overly active nervous system?

So instead of being constantly on edge, ready to enter an argument or just simply being irritated – by life and the situation in general and maybe all or certain people in particular (I'm sure you all know situations like this) – we are calmer, more relaxed and balanced.

The follow-on effects can be:

  • Better relationships with self, partner, family, everybody

  • Less anxiety, (menopausal) irritability, anger

  • More resilience to face challenges in a calmer way

  • Better sleep

  • And so much more

You might remember my 'speech' in the style of I Have a Dream about everybody having a well-balanced nervous system – this would be the ideal.

And as I said, we can only work on ourselves and within our own small circles – and then observe the ripple effect.

TRE doesn't require significant time commitments and even brief sessions of a few minutes can yield huge benefits.

I myself shake for only a few minutes. Sometimes every day, sometimes every other day.

But over time all this 'effort' accumulates and I can definitely notice the effects – back and hip pain gone and most certainly more resilience in my case.

My suggestion?

Don't wait for next year's Mother's Day to start your self-care.

After all, self-care is not an indulgence — it's a necessity.

And – most importantly – you don't have to be a mum or a woman to benefit from TRE.

I've taught executives, the self-employed, employees, pensioners, the bereaved, the generally stressed, clients with ADHD (“wow, my head feels so empty like never before”), clients with ME and very little energy … the list is endless.

I'd love to work much more with young people (apparently and sadly 'the anxious generation'), with teenagers, with children.

So bring your kids along – practising TRE together is such a valuable bonding experience for both you and your child.

But that will be the topic of another newsletter.

If you'd like to discuss anything, I invite you to get in touch or book a fact-finding chat and I'm here to answer all your questions so you can establish if TRE can meet your expectations.

I'm here for you, because I want you to know how TREmendously amazing your body is.

Your body already knows how to release stress.

TRE just reminds it how.
